Artist statement

I feel like a time traveller walking on various tracks emerging from nexus points, allowing for travel through different time corridors.
 

Years of observation, perception and mark making as an artist are now coming together in my videos. The six videos running in a loop, explore the nexus between cause and effect, the notion of continuum and the no beginning and no end of all existence. Here is a coming together of images I have explored along my journey as an artist over thirty years. The moving image, sound, details from my paintings on paper and canvas, and still photographs are the visual content for my videos.

 

The visual being in constant motion, changes from moment to moment, opening up new spaces. The frames melt into one another and the painted moment frozen in time merges into its own existence giving birth to new harmonious patterns. In the video Time Corridor I explore the idea of continuum, a walk-in through space and time. Here, a spotlight follows marking events and impressions in existence, acting as a reminder of a journey we all have to follow, a reality that exists for all of us.

Yet if we separate ourselves from this physical projection, we return to our intrinsic self where only stillness exists.

The video ‘In the here and now’ speaks of the present moment being the only truth. It is born out of all that has happened in the past. As each moment melts into the next and it makes one wonder if there really is anything like the future. The more I think I begin to believe that all is in the here and now, the present moment is the only reality.

The videos ‘Womb’ and ‘Genesis’ explore the space of the womb as a place of creation, a place I often use to decipher the notion of individual existence. Infinite particles create infinite configurations here. These particles are completely dependent on each other to recreate a new whole. So, is there any existence which is not dependent? In the videos‘No beginning no end’ II and IIIthe moving images resonate the constant motion of the earth and the forward movement of time. Here time exists as a reality only in the present moment, and the motion remains in continuation without a beginning or an end. Each moment emerges from the previous as an effect of its cause, which then becomes the next cause, and the process goes on.
