Silence Takes a Form | Photography | 2021

Artist Statement

Photographs shot during my travels in the United States in 2021. The play of life and interactions, left impressions in me and the camera lens moved to capture the essence as abstractions.

The rock formations were shot at the Joshua tree National park in California. I felt the immensity of space and a palpable silence as we drove through stopping to take photographs. There was this feeling of freedom from everything and at the same time a warm embrace and a sense of security. I went through this whole space with a feeling of not really being here on this earth and yet standing on terra firma !

It's interesting to  realise how the Joshua tree national park has been a source of inspiration to several artists and photographers like Ansel Adams, in the past. Here is desert land and miles of it with these sporadic giant rock formations in clusters, sculpted by strong winds and the occasional torrential rain, off-set by the diminutive yet very beautiful presence of the Joshua cactus tree.
